Every day, we look forward to hearing from consumers wanting to get the straight
facts about neighbourhoods across the GTA. We were especially excited to hear
from two of Toronto’s biggest names – The Globe and Mail and Toronto Life
Magazine – looking to do the same. The request? Drilling down to get the right
numbers behind each of Toronto’s neighbourhoods. The goal? Arming Toronto
consumers with empowering tools.
Beginning in the spring of 2008, we partnered with the Globe and Mail to update
the newspaper’s semi-annual real estate market report. The Globe wanted to make
its report more useful to consumers by reporting price activity at the
neighbourhood level – and approached Realosophy to make this exciting project
happen.
Realosophy has pioneered the reporting of neighbourhood level housing data
since we recognize that MLS districts often encompass areas that differ
significantly in price and lifestyle. The result of the collaboration? A full
colour map of Toronto neighbourhoods by average price and year over year price
movement.
The release of the map (a double-page newspaper insert and interactive online
graphic) is accompanied by an online QA with Realosophy founder John
Pasalis. We love this twice yearly opportunity to hear directly from consumers
about their most pressing questions and concerns.

This year, we are excited to be teaming up with Toronto Life Magazine on the
publication’s hotly anticipated real estate guide. Toronto Life contacted
Realosophy to get the most up to date neighbourhood level price data available
in the city.
To adapt our technology for the project, we had to ask ourselves some
interesting questions. Could the same street be considered part of two different
neighbourhoods? Do boundaries known by sight correspond to boundaries denoted by
price and lifestyle? And could the sunny side of a street ever belong in the
wrong neighbourhood?
Thanks to the partnership, the 2010 Toronto Life Real Estate Guide highlights the critical numbers
as well as the more intangible qualities that bring neighbourhoods to life. Full
of interesting tidbits about neighbourhoods we’ve loved for years and others
we’d like to dream about more - the guide is a permanent fixture on our bedside
tables.
